Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that provides a set of licenses allowing creators to share their works with the public under specific conditions. Unlike public domain resources, Creative Commons-licensed works are still under copyright, but the licenses give users permission to use the content in ways that would otherwise require direct permission from the creator.
There are six different license types (Creative Commons, 2019), listed from most to least permissive as follows:
