How to Print

Step 1: Open the document you wish to print

Step 2: Click on the 'Print' option (may vary between software types)

Step 3: Ensure the printer selected/destination is 'Follow Me Print'

Keep in Mind: If you want to print in colour or change some of the settings see directions below.

Step 4: Click the 'Print' option

Step 5: Go to the printer in the library

Step 6: Swipe your student ID card

Keep in Mind: If you do not have your student ID card you can log into the printer by using your student ID number and same password as your email.

Step 7: Your print job should then spit out of the printer

Print in Colour

Step 1: Open the document you wish to print

Step 2: Click on the 'Print' option (may vary between software types)

Step 3: Ensure the printer selected/destination is 'Follow Me Print'

Step 4: Click on 'Printer Properties' or 'More Settings' 

Step 5: Change the color mode from 'Grayscale' to 'Color' 

Step 6: Save your settings

Step 7: Resume Steps 4-7 under 'How to Print' above

Print Single Sided

Step 1: Open the document you wish to print

Step 2: Click on the 'Print' option (may vary between software types)

Step 3: Ensure the printer selected/destination is 'Follow Me Print'

Step 4: Click on 'Printer Properties,' or 'More Settings,' or 'Print Using System Dialog and 'Preferences'

Step 5: Click on the 'Layout' tab

Step 6: In the 'Print Type' option choose '1-sided'

Step 7: Click 'OK'

Step 8: Resume Steps 4-7 under 'How to Print' above

 

How to Scan to Email

Step 1: Swipe ID card on the printer or enter your student ID number and password

Step 2: Click on 'Scan'

Step 3: Click 'Me' to send to your Olds College email.

Keep in Mind: If you select 'URL' the scanned file will go to your email as a URL not a PDF file

Step 4: Align your document on the glass or in the feed at the top

Step 5: Push 'Start'

Step 6: You should receive an email with your file within the next 5 minutes

 

Printing Fees

Each student receives $5 of printing credit to their accounts at the beginning of each semester.

Students are charged a fee for printing based on the fee schedule below. The fee is automatically deducted from the student’s printing account. Once your printing credit is used up, you can purchase further printing credit at the Learning Commons front desk.

How to Install Printer

Step 1: Click on the Windows Start Button

Step 2: Click on the Settings gear

Step 3 : Click 'Devices'

Step 4: Click 'Printers & Scanners'

Step 5: Click 'Add a printer or scanner'

Keep in Mind: This will then start the printer search

 

Step 6: When the pop up saying 'The printer that I want isn't listed' click 'Click a shared printer by name'

Step 7: Type in the below address and select the printer from the list

  • \\calpsrv1\

Step 8: Click 'Next'

Step 9: The Windows Printer Installation will connect to the printer

Step 10: A window saying "You've successfully added..." will pop up, click 'Next'

Step 11: Click 'Finish'

How to Install Printer

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer (it will not work with any other browser) and go to this address:

  • printers.oldscollege.ca (if you are in Olds)

Keep in Mind: If you are in Microsoft Edge simply click the three horizontal dots in the top right and select Open with Internet Explorer Open with Internet Explorer

Keep in Mind: If you are in Chrome, Firefox, or some other browser close out and either navigate to Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer

Step 2 : A page with a printer list will appear.  Browse the list until you find the printer you need.

  • Each Building is represented by 2 or 3 letters (ELC for E-Learning Center, CF for Campus Facility)
  • Following the building is generally the place in the building where the printer is.
  • The location column will let you know the Room number (when applicable) to find the printer.

Step 3: Click on the printer you wish to install and another page will appear.  
Step 4: On that page you have to click on connect, as shown below.

Keep in Mind: If you do not see the connect button you are not in Internet Explorer.

Step 5: Click yes to the pop-up that will follow.

Step 6: Wait until the progress bar is done. The printer will be installed and ready to use.

Keep in Mind: Once installed, the printer will not be automatically the default printer. If you wish it to be the default printer, follow the steps outlined under Set Default Printer below.

How to Print

Follow me Print

If you need to print a sensitive document that you don’t want others to see, you can use the Follow-Me printer system. Simply, install the printer called "Follow Me Print." See instructions above for details on installing a printer.

Print a Document to Follow me Print

Step 1: Choose "Follow Me Print" printer instead of default printer to print document.
Step 2: Go to printer they wish to release document from.
Step 3: Place Staff Printing RFID card on the card reader.

Keep in Mind: If you do not have your Staff ID card you can log into the printer by using your computer login credentials.

Step 4: Document will automatically release.

Another advantage to the "Follow Me Print" option is that a staff member can use any printer to print their documents, even if they do not know the name of the printer. When a person prints to the "Follow Me Print" printer they can release it from any printer with a card reader and pick it up.

How to Scan to Email

Step 1: Tap your Staff ID card on the printer or enter your computer login credentials

Step 2: Click on 'Scan'

Step 3: Click 'Me' to send to your Olds College email.

How to UnInstall a Printer

Step 1: Click the start button on the bottom left hand corner of your desk top

 

Step 2 : Click on the gear icon that appears

Step 3: Click on 'Devices'


Step 4: Click on 'Printers & scanners' on the left hand side

Step 5: Click on the printer you want to remove

Step 6: Click on the option 'Remove Device'
